Back in 1987, Craig Payst was a member of my cartooning class in Raleigh, NC, and a prolific minicomic artist and self-publisher. I asked him to contribute a Spud & Ernie story to the one-shot black & white Cynicalman comic book that was being published by Eclipse. The result was a boisterous tour-de-force of jokes, fights and a certain squeaky-clean TV Sitcom:
